FYLKINGEN
ALTERATION OF A PERFORMANCE SPACE

FYLKINGEN, STOCKHOLM, 2013

ROSVALL/ZAWIEJA

ARTICLE IN ARKITEKTUR >> PDF

Fylkingen is a venue and an artists' society for experimental audio-visual performing arts.

The reconstruction expands the possible uses of this performance space by adding a new entrance, foyer, mezzanine floor and passageways. Added elements are made out of wood to facilitate future changes.

A continuous, process-based dialogue has guided us in this undertaking. Among other things the proposals have been drawn to scale in the venue and discussed at open member meetings. During this process we’ve also been in charge of securing funding plan for the reconstruction.

STAGE DIRECTIONS
A BUILT MANUAL
WITH ANDJEAS EJIKSSON

GALLERI MEJAN, STOCKHOLM, 2014
MDT, STOCKHOLM, 2014

EVA BONNIERS DONATIONSNÄMND, 2015

Stage Directions is an architectural tryout. The work takes as its starting point one of the most basic architectural conventions, the orthographic drawing, and explores written instructions as an alternative architectural tool: Can stage directions function as building instructions? Can they convey desires and needs that drawings leave out? Can they encompass the temporality of the site from conception to demolition?

GOETHE/CERVANTES
A SHARED LIBRARY/BAR

STOCKHOLM, 2014

ROSVALL/ZAWIEJA

Library as shared space: When closed it works as foyer, bar and passage to an auditorium. When open the library is shared between two cultural institutes.

Interiors are made out of basic building materials such as mdf and wood, with detailing informed by existing pillar structure and the robust materiality of the building.

SCENES FOR A PLAY

2009-2012

WITH NADINE BYRNE, EVA MEYER,
LISI RASKIN, HINRICH SACHS, ERAN SCHAEFR

A group of seven individuals, including visual artists, architects and writers with varying geographical and cultural backgrounds as well as coming from different generations, organized a work-mode outside the common time constraints of artistic practice. The point of departure was to experiment with the possibilities presented by re-inventing the exhibition project HON by Niki de Saint Phalle and others, shown on Skeppsholmen in 1966. After having dismissed the concept of re-invention, the historical material and its potential was reconsidered and translated into a contemporary and wide contemplation on the body, built space, and gender issues.

IMAGINE A HOUSE

VIDEO, 14 MIN

2007

In the video Imagine a House I explore cinematic storytelling as an architectural tool. Taking the 19th century mass mediated cult of domesticity and the separation of spheres as a starting point, Imagine a House looks into the making of the modern home during the early days of British industrialisation. A story of Victorian domesticity is played out in the empty house on 195 Mare Street, East London, where “fallen women” are trained in the art of homemaking and working class men are taught political consciousness.
